Who We Are

My Eden Voice is a grassroots community organization formed in 2018 to build power and collective action in the urban unincorporated communities of Alameda County. My Eden Voice advocates for racial and economic justice and intentionally puts equity at the center of our work. We aim to build power, engage residents , and advocate for policy changes that benefit our communities. 

Our collaborative approach and strategic policy work have been instrumental in elevating the needs of the unincorporated communities of Alameda County and changing the narrative from one of historical disinvestment to one that highlights Alameda County’s municipal responsibility. 
My Eden Voice is fiscally sponsored by In-Advance. In-Advance is  a movement center for organizing to advance racial and economic justice in a globalized world.  In-Advance is recognized for its commitment to nurturing strategic campaigns and projects that center  the lived experience of regular folks who live in disinvested communities, whether they’ve been there for generations or just arrived from making the dangerous trek across borders.

The Role

My Eden Voice seeks a passionate, motivated and courageous individual to join our leadership team as the Co-Executive Director of Organizational Development and Strategy. The position will work in close collaboration and build an effective model of shared leadership with a like-minded colleague. 

As the My Eden Voice Co-Director of Organizational Development and Strategy, you will be primarily responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. A successful candidate for this position will need to have proven capacity to engage residents and community-based organizations in community organizing, policy and advocacy initiatives. You will have experience with fundraising, community building, leadership development, and organizational development and management. 

This position is supported by a coalition of nonprofit community organizations, resident leaders, local government, and philanthropic partners committed to advancing equity and building a stronger civic voice in the Eden Area. 

This position is primarily responsible for leading the organizational development strategy, including fundraising, communications, workforce planning, and engaging the leadership of the organization. 

  • Convene the Board of Directors and the Advisory Committee to guide the organization's growth and strategic vision

  • Lead the fundraising efforts, including the design of the fundraising strategy and the cultivation of relationships with institutional funders and donors

  • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization

  • Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditures of the organization

  • Oversee the workforce planning and human resources policies and practices that keeps and motivates a highly qualified staff in coordination with My Eden Voice’s fiscal sponsor

Qualifications & Skill Set

  • Shared life experience and cultural competency with members

  • Experience with power-building work: understand community organizing as our strategy for change

  • Commitment to language justice: written and spoken fluency in English and Spanish are preferred. The Co-ED will promote a culture of equity and inclusion for a multilingual staff and membership base through language access

  • At least 5 years relevant experience that can include grassroots organizing, leadership development, placemaking, communications, and community collaboration

  • Experience working with diverse, low-income communities, with people of color, and with the issues affecting low-income urban residents

  • Experience in running diverse, effective coalitions and facilitating high impact policy tables

  • Ability to assess options, develop creative solutions, and take strategic action based the organization’s vision and values

  • Proven experience with fundraising and grant writing

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail in a demanding environment

  • Experience and/or familiarity with unincorporated Alameda County is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office

  • Bachelor’s degree; may substitute three years of equivalent work experience

Work Environment
A combination of time spent in a sedentary office environment with time spent on site in unincorporated Alameda County  

Travel Requirements
The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear.  Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone.  Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
